The RF semiconductor industry has seen “drastic consolidation” recently. Microwave Journal editor Pat Hindle shares his thoughts on some of the recent mergers and acquisitions affecting the industry. After reviewing the consolidation in the GaN market, he writes about the acquisition of Peregrine Semiconductor by Murata. “The purchase of Peregrine by Murata seems to be the best match of the bunch as it gives Murata’s module business access to some of the best switches (and other devices) in the industry, but also gives Peregrine a large backer with great assembly expertise and market presence in the wireless industry.” He then continues to discuss Peregrine’s Global 1 RF front end and other competing CMOS solutions. He concludes the article with his prediction that China will make more purchases into the semiconductor industry and rumors of another industry consolidation.
