From October 22 to 24, nearly 22,000 people from more than 100 countries gathered in the Los Angeles Convention Center for MWC Los Angeles (#MWC19). Under the overarching theme of intelligent connectivity, attendees were able to view and discuss the latest trends shaping the mobile ecosystem, including 5G, IoT, disruptive innovation and immersive content. The event show floor featured exhibitions with the latest cutting-edge technologies, including the newest products from Murata and pSemi.
In the Murata booth, pSemi and Murata showcased a co-designed mmWave 5G antenna-integrated module (AiM) and demonstrated over-the-air, dual-polarized transmission of a 256 QAM signal at 28 GHz in different directions. pSemi has partnered with our parent company, Murata, to co-design 28 GHz IC front ends, packages and antennas, and 39 GHz mmWave ICs.
In an increasingly crowded frequency spectrum, mmWave bands can maximize capacity and are viewed as an integral part of 5G networks. mmWave bands have shorter wave lengths, and they will rely on beamforming techniques to accurately steer the signal to targeted users.
The Murata mmWave module incorporates multi-channel, beamforming front-end RFICs by pSemi, offering scalable high-efficiency transmitters and low-noise receivers for next-generation 5G radios. This type of technology is critical to enabling 5G wireless communications for base stations, customer-premises equipment (CPE) and smartphone applications. The modular approach using AiM is suitable for building any size array.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Murata stand at MWC19 and viewed the live demonstration.
